Ramsgate, Kent, UK 1 July 2015. As temperatures soar, a giant American Agave, native to the deserts of Mexico, is flowering in the Italianate Garden at Ramsgate. The agave, one of a pair in the glasshouse at the King George VI Memorial Park is sometimes known as a maguey or century plant as it can grow for as many as 100 years before it flowers once and then dies. The flowers are on a huge spike that is now approaching 30 feet high. Glasshouse custodians Phil and Janice Dadds are seen here with the agave. Credit: Paul Martin/Alamy Live News
