Between the panels, on narrow slips of black marble, the figures of a celestial personage,with a nimbus ; the right hand in a posture ofbenediction, the left holding a cross : a mournfulfigure, in a long robe, with a staff: a figure, withdishevelled hair, pointing to the Sun in the firma-ment, his left hand on the top, and left foot onthe tread of a spade, placed on the globe of theearth. These are on the north side. On thesouth remain only the fainter outlines of twomourners, and a skeleton holding a scythe, withemblems, on the panels. At the west end is a plate of brass, with aTemple or Sepulchre, having a lofty arch in thecentre, under which is a shield, containing thearms of West, as before :. ^i«-4.,^
