Wearable computing. Pair of prototype motion- sensitive shoes, a type of affective computer. The shoes measure 16 parameters associated with dance movements using a variety of devices including accelerometers, pressure sensors and a compass. The information is constantly radioed from the circuit board on the side of the shoe to a nearby computer. This computer updates the variables up to 60 times a second and converts them into perfectly-synchronised music. Affective computers provide feedback about a person's physical state or behaviour. These shoes were created at the Media Lab of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), USA.
