Severe gastritis, endoscope view. Gastritis is inflammation of the stomach lining. It causes pain on eating or drinking, and may cause nausea and vomiting. In this case the inflammation resulted from infection with Helicobacter pylori bacteria. Treatment is aimed at the underlying cause, and antacids or protein pump inhibitor drugs (to reduce acid production) can help to manage the symptoms.
