Ovarian endometrioma. Endometriomas, also known as chocolate cysts, are a result of endometriosis, the movement of cells from the lining of the uterus to the abdominal cavity. The cells still respond to the menstrual cycle and so bleed once a month. As the blood has nowhere to go, this causes pain, inflammation and scar tissue, that can lead to infertility.
