Stahlhaus Dessau, Steel House, Törten Estate, in Dessau. By Georg Muche in 1926 as prefab experiment for the Bauhaus, predicting container housing.

Stahlhaus Dessau, Steel House, on the Törten Estate or Gropiussiedlung or Bauhaussiedlung, in Dessau, Sachsen-Anhalt (Saxony-Anhalt),Germany. Designed by architect Georg Muche with assistance of Richard Paulick in 1926 as prefab experiment for the Bauhaus, long before container housing was even thought of in the 1960s. And being built in the eighties. Though there have been plans to build more, the Stahlhaus remained the only one. The idea of using prefab housing was not new: Leonardo da Vinci already dreamed of a town on the Loire river made entirely out of prefab buildings.
