It was no uncommon occur-rence to see at the same time a mule stalled in themiddle of the street with only his head abovethe mud, and an unfortunate pedestrian who hadsli2~»ped off the plank sidewalk, being fished out bya companion. Some good Samaritan, with a heartoverflowing with the milk of human kindness,erected at the corner of Clay and Kearney Streetsthe following warning to the unwary : This street is even jackassable !
