These carsweighed approximately 26,000 lb. and seated twenty-eight passengers. Four of these cars were runthrough from one end of the line to the other, whilethe fifth was operated on a branch stub line on ashuttle service. As each car came out to the con-necting point, the conductor would leave his car. Illinois Traction—Type of Single-Truck Car Replacedon Riverside Line, Wichita, Kan. and take the shuttle car to the end of the stub lineand back while the motorman went on to the end ofthe main line and returned with the other car. Thenthe stub car was left standing there without at-tendant until the next outbound car arrived. Thus,but eight men were required to run the five carswith a fifteen-minute headway, or sixteen men forthe full hours a day service. The schedulespeed was one trip an hour or m. p. h. When the safety cars were installed in September,1913, the five cars formerly used were replaced withsix new ones running with a ten-minute headwayand with every other car alternating on the stubline and on the main line, so that beyond this junc-tion point, a twenty-minute service is supplied. Thesame schedule speed of m. p. h. is maintainedwith the safety cars, since the forked line with onebranch longer than the other and the alternat
