Produced in 1954 this steam engine is in service on the 1000mm narrow gauge Brocken Railway though the Harz Mountains National

One of the so called New Steam Engines for Germany's 1000mm gauge railway in the Herz Mountains. First delivered in 1954 it was a close copy of the standard issue locomotives of the 1030s. The engine is in service on the Brocken Railway, from Wernigerode to the summit of the Brocken, the highest mountain in the Harz National Park. The peak of the Brocken was a military base which has only been open to the public for a relatively short time. Until the fall of the Berlin wall it was off limits to all but the Soviet Army.
