January 11, 2014, Tucson, Arizona, USA: Participants in a 5-mile run/walk through Saguaro National Park in the Sonoran Desert enjoy a 72 degree day in contrast to the sub zero temperatures of the polar vortex that hit much of the eastern portion of the country in recent days. Saguaro National Park and Friends of Saguaro National Park hosted the run as part of the Tucson Beyond events, a community-wide outdoor festival that celebrates the spirit of community and the beauty of the natural surroundings. It is a day of fitness with activities planned for people of all ages, abilities and fitness levels. This event was one of many throughout the Tucson area held to commemorate the January 8, 2011 shooting that seriously injured Arizona Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords and killed several people.
