The Stations of the Cross re-enact the final hours or Passion of Jesus. The re-enactment is a spiritual pilgrimage of prayers, with both participants and onlookers meditating on the chief scenes of Christ's suffering and death. Station 13, seen here at the end of a Good Friday procession between Santiago's Metropolitan Cathedral and Church of San Francisco, involves the dead Jesus being removed from the cross and placed on the ground for the Lamentation of the Virgin Mary.
