It has been my observation thatthe greatest transverse diameter is apt tobe near the middle of the abscess. Anordinary abscess casts a dense shadowwhich may present itself beyond the edgesof the mediastinum, but the diagnosis ofthis shadow will depend largely upon theclinical history.
