Benjamin Nicholson hosted a “Sister School - Sister Village” awards ceremony for tenant commands Naval Base Guam; Naval Medical Readiness and Training Command, Guam; Explosive Ordnance Disposal Mobile Unit Five; and Naval Airborne Weapons Maintenance Unit One, as well mayoral leadership from their sister villages Talo’fo’fo, Piti, Yona, Santa Rita-Sumai, and Hagåt, at JRM, Nov. 9. Mayor Vicente Taitague, mayor of the Municipality of Talo’fo’fo, and Mayor Jesse Alig, mayor of the Municipality of Piti, were in attendance. Awardees were presented with a certificate, Admiral’s coin, and commemorative cupcake for their dedicated service to their communities. The Sister Village Program began in 1974, pairing military units with villages as a means to foster and develop mutual understanding between the people of Guam, military personnel, and their family members stationed on Guam.
