One of these amused himself suck-ing the infants thumb, while the other seemed to prefer its bigtoe. Occasionally the little savages became so earnest in thissport that the heir of Herbel was fain to express his displeasureby screams and kicks, and the mother would toss the offendingcub out of the cradle. Without noticing the rebuke in the slight-est degree, it would coolly climb back to its place, and fasten upontoe or finger with renewed pertinacity. 288 rORTE CRAYON AND HIS THE NURSERY.
