Georges Eugene Clemenceau by Etienne Carjat, 1879

Georges Eugène Benjamin Clemenceau was a French statesman who served as Prime Minister of France twice: from 1906 to 1909 and again from 1917 to 1920. He was a key figure of the Independent Radicals and advocated for separation of church and state, amnesty for the Communards exiled to New Caledonia, and opposition to colonization. As Prime Minister during World War I, Clemenceau played a crucial role in leading France to victory. After the war, he was instrumental in shaping the Treaty of Versailles, with his goal being the complete destruction of Germany’s military might.
