Israel Bet Shean Palladius street from Byzantine period fourth to sixth century AD was built on Roman foundations During Hellenistic period Bet Shean had a Greek population and was called Scythopolis In 64 BCE it was taken by Romans rebuilt and made capital of Decapolis Ten Cities of Samaria that were centers of Greco Roman culture city contains best preserved Roman theater of ancient Samaria as well as a hippodrome cardo and other trademarks of Roman influence Excavations at cite are ongoing at site and reveal no less than 18 successive ancient towns
