The tower of the historic 12th century church at Whitcombe, in the snow. The Dorset poet William Barnes was curate here from 1847 to 1852. England, UK

The tower of the redundant church at Whitcombe, near Dorchester in Dorset. The nave of the church was built in the 12th century but the site has been a place of worship since Saxon times. It was here that the Dorset dialect poet William Barnes preached his very first sermon and also his last. Barnes was the curate at Whitcombe from 1847 to 1852, and again from 1862. This beautiful old building is now in the care of the Churches Conservation Trust. Here we see the church in the winter snow.
