The membrane covering thecornua of the os hyoides and the thyroid carti-lage was swelled and red, and had that purplish 98 or bluish cast, with lake-coloured turgid vessels, which would incline me to say that the in-flammation was of an erythematous kind. Within the cartilages of the larynx the mem-brane was distinctly formed, but irregular;perhaps displaced, in some measure, in thehurry of dissection. There was little inflam-mation lower in the trachea; and there wasnone of the membranous pellicles or crusts tobe observed lower down than the cricoid car-tilage ; but the internal membrane had thevessels distinct, and slightly turgid. I was not allowed to open the breast. ,7 99 EXPLANATION O* PLATE III, In this plate the parts are* presented to usas seen from behind, the cartilages and mem-branous part of the trachea being slit appearance of the whole, however, differsessentially from that of plate I. Here themembrane formed by the disease is less per-fect, being more in shreds and detached pieces, whilst the upper part of the trachea is consi-derably tumiticd and inflamed. This plate uintended to shew the parts in a higly inflamedState. 100 CASE XII. Sunday, June 7. A. R *S daughter. She has had catarrhal complaints since Sun-day last, with a rough cough.
