George Bliss, Jr., son of George Bliss,Sr., and Hannah Clark, was born November 16, 1793. Hegraduated at Yale College in 1812, and studied law in theoffice of his father, and was admitted to the bar in 1815. Hecommenced practice in Monson, Mass., but soon afterremoved to Springfield, and went into partnership with hisfather-in-law, Jonathan Dwight, Jr., under the firm ofDwight & Bliss. In the War of 1812 he was an aid to General Jacob Bliss,from whence he gained the title of Colonel. He was amember of the Massachusetts House of Representatives in1827, 1828, 1831, 1832, 1833, 1839, ^<J 1S53, the latter 6o SKETCHES OF THE OLD INHABITANTS. The home of the late Hon. George Bliss, 25 Chestnut street, built in formerly stood where is now Christ Episcopal Church, and is owned by thatsociety, and used as a rectory. It was moved to its present location in 1873.
