The so-called "Exsurge Domine" was a papal bull issued by Pope Leo X on June 15, 1520. The pope issued it in response to Martin Luther, who would become a promiment leader of the Protestant Reformation, posting his 95 Theses in 1517. The bull demanded that Luther retract many of his statements, which the bull called errors, by December 20. Luther did not and on December 20, Luther burned the bull, as shown here.
