The Radio City Music Hall, opened on December 27th 1932, is part of the 12 acre (49,000 square metre) complex in Midtown Manhattan known as the Rockefeller centre (developed by John D. Rockefeller Jr 1929-40). The Art Deco music hall derives its name from the Radio Corporation of America (RCA), an early tenant. It quickly developed a feature film and stage spectacular format. Films from RKO-Radio Studio were shown in what became the largest movie theatre in the world, with over 5900 seats. Many stars have performed here.
