Sir Thomas More (1478 – 1535), with his friend, theologian Desiderius Erasmus of Rotterdam. More was Lord High Chancellor of England, but opposed the Protestant Reformation, Henry VIII as Supreme Head of the Church of England and the annulment of his marriage to Catherine of Aragon. He was venerated by Catholics as Saint Thomas More
