In a few minutes the canoe which we had senton shore was seen putting off. The answer received, however,was one of defiance: that they should not give her up soeasily, but we might take her if we could. AQ three vessels then opened fire upon the town and ship,which was returned by the forts on shore, the Malays alsofiring our ships guns at us.
