Henry Graham Brown was a son of John H. Brown,a noted steel manufacturer, the founder of the firmof John H. Brown & Company. Henry Graham Brownwas born in Philadelphia, Pa., June 20, 1852, and hiseducation was obtained in private institutions and Haver-ford College. As a young man, twenty-one years ofage, he came to Pittsburgh and entered his fatherssteel mill to learn all details of the business he intended. BIOGRAPHICAL 35 making his life work. The manufacturing interestsof this company were later taken over by Mr. Brown,his brother, J. Stuart Brown, and James Neale, incor-poration being made as Brown & Company, Inc. HenryGraham Brown filled the offices of vice-president andgeneral manager of this company, and his influence waslargely responsible for the career of uninterrupted suc-cess and prosperity it enjoyed. Mr. Brown was vice-president of the Clyde Coal Company, and filled thesame office in the Pennsylvania Drop Forging knowledge of the steel industry was impressive,gained from first-hand contact with all of the problemsof production and management, and his rule in theplant of Brown & Company, Inc., was one firm yetsympathetic, the direction of authority based upon exactunderstanding.
