And,mind you, these proofs were printed ready for publi-cation ; whereas under the Masters hands it wasuncertain when they might be finished; it might bein a months time, it might be in a year. I neverforgot Dowdeswells generosity. The Master wasextraordinarily fortunate in having such men asDowdeswell and Brown to fight his battles.
