‘Lonesome George’ Pinta Island Giant Galapagos Tortoise (Chelonoidis nigra abingdonii) male, extinct, died on 2012.

The Pinta giant tortoise, Abingdon Island tortoise, or Abingdon Island giant tortoise, was the last remaining example of the Pinta race or subspecies of Giant Galapagos Tortoises. He was cared for at the Darwin Centre on Santa Cruz Galapagos Ecuador. The subspecies, abingdoni from Pinta Island, is now considered extinct following the death of Lonesome George on June 24, 2012. He was believed to have been more than 100 years old.
