The wood roof over the roof houses, andother wood-work around the cornice and the upper portion ofthe building, no doubt, contributed to the heat which caused thefailure of these trusses. It was noted that the rear wall between pilasters was only 8thick for a height of about 50 ft. IMuch less damage wouldhave resulted had this been a steel skeleton frame building, withthe walls supported by the steel work.
