A 19th century image of the many armed Hindu deity DURGA, one the consorts of Siva. She is depicted thrusting a spear into Mahisha chief of the demons. It is interesting to see that in this depiction, Mahisha is inthe form of a European with his lion, clearly having a reference to the British Raj in India. A great festival held each year in Durga's honour is called the Durga Puja.
