History of the New York Nursery and Childs Hospital HE work now carried on by the New York Nursery and ChildsHospital, succeeding to all the activities and to all the tradi-tions of the oldest nursery, the oldest childs hospital, and theoldest maternity hospital in the City of New York, which sentdoctors to the homes of the poor at the time of childbirth, wasbegun in 1823. The present corporation was formed by the consolidationof the Nursery and Childs Hospital with the New York Infant Asylum,which had formerly consolidated with the old Marion Street MaternityHospital. Each of these institutions was a pioneer in its particular lineof endeavor. The Old Marion Street Maternity Hospital was organized in 1823and incorporated in 1827 as The New York Female Asylum for Lying-inWomen and was so called for the next seventy years.
