Sheep tick. Light micrograph of a sheep tick (Ixodes ricinus). This is an ectoparsite with eight legs with claws at the tips for clinging to the host and setae all over the body. This mite feeds on the blood of its host, and can transmit fever and Lyme disease to humans. Magnification: x5 when printed at 10 centimetres wide.
