The latter on ac- count of its color which resembles that of the orange. The tree is a strong grower, abundant bearer, and has a fine oval shaped foliage, which is very attractive. This variety is probably more largely found in the home orchards and in local markets than any other. The fruit is of a fine golden color when ripe, having a smooth skin. The flesh is golden yellow in color, fine and of excellent flavor, highly recom- mended for the making of preserves. Suitable for planting in all fruit sec- tions of this state. Ripens August and September. Champion Known as the Cham- pion among quinces on account of the exceptional size of the fruit. It has a fine yellow color strongly russeted. The flesh is very tender and delicious and is often used in cooking with other fruits so as to impart its flavor. The tree is a strong handsome grower and a heavier producer than any other of its class. Champion does well in all sections of California.
