The Reformed Church ofHolland planted the first churches in the present States of New Yorkand New Jersey, and for a long time continued to foster them. Atlength the Church of England was established in these two States ; andas that was also a Reformed church, it became necessary to add theword Dutch to the name of the older denomination, in order to showits origin distinctly.
