This image may not be used to state or imply ESA endorsement of any company or product Aureum Chaos, northeast view. Mars Express satellite image of Aureum Chaos, a collapsed region consisting of a major canyon system thought to have been shaped by a large body of liquid, perhaps water. Evidence for water over another liquid includes clay minerals (phyllosilicates) found in the area (not seen here), because clay minerals require water to form. The rock disruptions here are one of the signs of fluid flowing across the area. Data for this image were obtained by the High Resolution Stereo Camera (HRSC) on ESA's Mars Express.
