Greenpeace demonstrators dressed in black with skulls and wings as dead at CND demo at Aldermaston nuclear bomb factory
Fifty years ago in 1958 the first marchers set off from Aldermaston in a protest against the British policy of using nuclear weapons and demanding a policy of unilateral disarmament. The Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament is still going 50 years later and in an anniversary event around 8000 demonstrators surrounded the base, with larger groups at all of the gates around its several mile perimeter. They want to stop Britain's increasing poliferation of nuclear weapons with new generation arms replacing Trident and other weapons being planned.
