The George Hotel, Cley-next-the-Sea, on the north Norfolk coast, UK.

The George Hotel at Cley-next-the-Sea was where a meeting was held in 1926 when Dr Sydney Long, a Norwich GP, persuaded friends to join together to buy 400 acres of nearby coastal marshes. The land was then transferred to a new trust on condition that it be held in perpetuity as a bird sanctuary. Thus, the Norfolk Naturalists Trust - now the Norfolk Wildlife Trust - became the first wildlife trust in the UK and Cley marshes reserve, now grown much bigger through further land acquisition, is a bird-watching location of world renown.
