Private Binkley sought and obtained permission togo out in front of our lines and recover his corporalwho was lying severely wounded in the open. Hecrossed an open area that was swept for more thanfifty yards by enemy machine guns. While the enemyfire was directed at him he reached his corporal,picked him up and carried him in his arms safelyback into our lines. Later he was wounded but re-fused to go to the aid station until his company hadwon its Service Cross.
