It is about six mileseast of Oakland, the county seat of GarrettCounty, and is one mile square in size. Deer Park was built up on the site of theformer Penny Estate, known as Peace andPlenty tract, in the year 1865, by B. Davis and a Mr. Emil F. Droge operated a large lumber millat this time and owned a private herd ofdeer; hence the name of the town. DeerPark was incorporated in the year 1883. Friendly Hall, which is used by residentsfor social gatherings of all kinds, is a giftof Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Williams.
