The road narrows towards the east and Taylors Chemists and other shops would be demolished to widen the road in 1936. The Greater London Rubber Company was famous for its Durex brand of contraceptive condom. The shops on the right of this photograph would be demolished in the post-war years to create the Churchill Square development - an early black and white photograph
