In addition to this extensive work, theconsulting architects have supervised the design and erection of manysmaller public buildings, including a number of schools and Fire De-partment structures. This structure contains threecompartments, each 8x9 feet in the clear, and has a total capacityof 1800 cubic feet per second at high tide. It is constructed in theformer bed of Mission Creek, which is composed of slimy silt veryunsuitable for foundation, and therefore required a forest of pilesto obviate the danger of settlement.
