Leaves flat, rather broad andshghtly concave at the tip;sheath smooth and longerNatural than its leaf; ligule shortand blunt. Panicle loose,spreading and pyramidal inshape. Spikelets three- to five-flowered, compressed. Emptyglumes much webbed, lanceo-late, almost equal. Flower-ing glumes larger, webbed,keeled, and acute. Paleashort. Flowers June andearly in July. Grows in mea-dows and pastures throughout Europe, Siberia, NorthAfrica, and North America.
