When the threshing began, the noise of the iron cog-wheels,the rapid scattering of the straw as it was thrown out by themachine, and the shouts of the drivers to the horses, created agreater confusing din of sounds than the old gentlemancould endure. With wild gesticulations of his hands andhis walking cane, he ordered his servants away from themachine, and disdaining the haste with which his crop wasbeing disposed of, he shouted to the operator to stop, and takethe machine out of his sight and hearing.
