Some Interesting Details of Construction In the motor shop and heavy machine shop the floorsare made of 4-in. x 6-in. redwood blocks laid on sandcushion. These blocks were previously treated by boil-ing in asphalt. The principal machines now in use inthese shops were moved from the general shops at LosAngeles, but some additional tools, together withcranes, hoists, etc., have been installed. In the paint shop steam coils have been located in. The lampsin the inspection pits are installed in niches and arestaggered 21 ft. center to center. Two lighting recep-tacles are installed in each niche; one contains the lampand the other is used for emergency purposes so that anextension cord can be inserted and a drop line usedwhere light at the work is needed. An Otis 5-ton self-operated electric freight elevator is installed in thewood mill and a similar type of 2-ton capacity is used inthe storehouse.
