Grillotia tapeworm. Scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of the adult stage of the tapeworm grillotia, an intestinal parasite. Grillotia belongs to a group of tapeworms called the trypanorhynchs. it has four tentacles lined with hooked barbs that upon contact with the intestinal wall of its host, shoot out and embed themselves in the host's tissue. Trypanorhynch tapeworms (Platyhelminthes: Cestoda) are among the most diverse and abundant groups of metazoan parasites of elasmobranchs (sharks and rays etc.).
