A late 19th century view of sheep grazing in a field next to Kenilworth Castle, in the town of Kenilworth in Warwickshire, England. Founded in the 1120s around a powerful Norman great tower, and enlarged by King John at the beginning of the 13th century, it was the subject of the six-month-long siege of Kenilworth in 1266, thought to be the longest siege in Medieval English history. The castle has played an important historical role through English history until ruined during the English Civil War of thew 17th century.
