A Saami girl gets dressed in traditional clothes for her confirmation ceremony in Kautokeino, northern Norway. Her maternal aunt helps her put on the winter shoes made of reindeer fur and filled with dried, insulating grass. Her mother sits in the doorway, putting on her own shoes. The Saami living in Kautokeino celebrate confirmation and other life cycle ceremonies at Easter time, after which the reindeer herders move with their herds to the Atlantic coast for summer pasture.
