Many women and children enter the hospital compound on Saturday mornings to attend the Supplemental Feeding Program, a Farah Provincial Reconstruction Team (PRT) initiative designed to help families with malnourished children that was taken over by the hospital on Oct. 31, 2009. The program, which included teaching the local hospital staff how to make the Ready to Use Therapeutic Food (RUTF) or Qavi Ghiza (Pashtu for “Strong Food”) began in June 2009. Currently, there are 66 children enrolled in the program, which is periodically checked for quality assurance by the PRT Medical Team.
