Night beach view, with reflections, north to Central Pier 'Big Wheel' and red Blackpool Tower, Blackpool Illuminations, UK

The Central Pier dates to 1864, the year after the more genteel North Pier. In 1960 the pier was strengthened, at a cost of £75,000, to take the weight of the 32 metres (108 feet) tall 'Big Wheel', here illuminated with red and orange lights. The Sky Flyer (not present in 2015) is a recent flying machine ride, where tourists sit in seats, which rise and spin around an illuminated central column, just north of the CEntral Pier's entrance. Blackpool Tower, opened in 1894, has computer-controlled changing lights, here illuminated red. The tower in 2013, 2014 and 2015 was undergoing repairs. Beach view, with reflections, looking north towards the Tower and Central Pier from Blackpool's Central Sands.
