A superb silver-mounted sabre for a Hungarian magnate, circa 1870/80 Old, slightly curved, single-edged blade dating from the 17th century, with a broad, double-edged point. Double fullers on both sides, the root with a pseudo inscription and a Turkish mark (tughra?) stamped into one side. The quillons with relief décor in richly engraved and chased gilt silver, one arm cracked and stabilised. On the front, the head of a Magyar prince in half relief.
