Chevening House, traditionally an official residence of the Foreign Secretary, seen across the maze in the grounds.


The yew hedge maze at Chevening was first planted by the 4th Earl of Stanthorpe between 1818 and 1830. It was made to a design of Philip Stanhope,the 2nd Earl who was a mathematician and Fellow of the Royal Society.
