15/05/19 Blooming two weeks earlier than normal, the UK's longest and oldest Laburnum arch has bust into flower at the National Trust's Bodnant Garden near Conwy, North Wales. The 180 ft long arch is made from 64 plants. In January two of Bodnant's gardeners train the news shoots tying them to the metal frame using 20,000 pieces of string, with all the knots facing the same direction - a job that takes three to four weeks. Then it takes two weeks for them to deadhead after flowering finishes in late June before another four to six weeks pruning in winter. The laburnum arch is the most visited, photographed, Facebooked and ÔselfiedÕ feature of Bodnant Garden C with around 50,000 visitors in the 3 weeks itÕs in flower. It normally flowers late May into early June. Like other plants itÕs early this year. It started to flower late April (Easter weekend) C a month early C then stalled, and has now started again.
